Hiring a Campervan

Hiring a campervan for the first time can feel exciting, but also a little bit unknown. You might be wondering what happens when you collect the van, whether everything will be explained properly, how confident you’ll feel driving it, or what to do if you forget how something works once you’re on the road.

At Wild River Campers, we want your first campervan hire experience to feel relaxed, friendly, and completely manageable. Whether you’re planning a carefully booked campsite stay or hoping to follow the weather and see where the road takes you, we’ll make sure you feel confident before you set off.

Booking Your Campervan

The first step is simple: book online to secure your campervan hire dates. Once your booking is confirmed, you’ll receive helpful reminders about payments, dates, and anything else you need to know before your trip.

You’ll also be able to choose a collection time that works for you. We know travel plans, family life, and work commitments can all be a bit of a juggle, so we’re flexible wherever possible.

Arriving at Wild River Campers

When you arrive to collect your campervan, we’ll start with the practical bits. We’ll check your documents, make sure everything is in order, and take the security deposit.

It’s not the most exciting part of the adventure, but it’s important — and once it’s done, we can get to the good bit: showing you around your home on wheels.

The Campervan Handover

Before you drive away, we’ll give you a full handover of the campervan. This is your chance to ask questions, get familiar with the layout, and understand how everything works.

We’ll show you where everything is and talk you through the things you’ll need during your trip, including:

  • How the heating works

  • How to use the water system

  • Where to fill up with fresh water

  • How to use the toilet

  • Where key items are stored

  • Any helpful tips to make your trip easier

There’s no such thing as a silly question. If you’ve never hired a campervan before, we expect you to have questions — and we’d much rather you ask before setting off than sit there wondering.

What If You Forget Something?

It’s completely normal to forget a few details once you’re on the road. That’s why each van includes a paper guide with useful information, so you can check how things work during your trip.

We’re also creating handy video guides to make things even easier in the future.

And of course, you’ll have our telephone number. If you get stuck or something doesn’t make sense, just give us a call. We’ll be more than happy to talk you through it and help you get back to enjoying your adventure.

Heading Off on Your Adventure

Once you’ve got the keys, the adventure is yours.

Some people arrive with campsites already booked and a clear plan for where they’re heading. Others prefer a more spontaneous trip, choosing their route depending on the weather, the coastline, or a last-minute recommendation.

That’s the beauty of campervan hire. You can enjoy the freedom of the open road without the commitment of owning a campervan yourself.

Driving, Insurance and Breakdown Cover

Our campervans are fully insured for two drivers, as long as both drivers meet the required criteria.

UK breakdown cover is also included, giving you extra reassurance while you’re away. We want you to feel confident, supported, and ready to enjoy the journey.

Bringing Your Dog

Your furry friend is welcome too. We know dogs are part of the family, and a campervan trip can be a wonderful way to make memories together.

For safety, we ask that dogs are secured while travelling using a dog loop in the back of the van. This helps keep both you and your dog safe on the road.

Leaving Your Car With Us

If you’re driving to Wild River Campers to collect your campervan, you can leave your vehicle in our secure car park while you’re away. Please note that anything left inside your vehicle is at your own risk.

Returning the Campervan

When it’s time to come home, just let us know roughly what time you expect to be back. We’re flexible with drop-off where possible, and we’ll make sure someone is here to meet you and hand back your vehicle if you’ve left one with us.

Returning the van is straightforward. We’ll go over everything, answer any final questions, and hopefully hear a few stories from your trip.

Your First Campervan Hire Doesn’t Need to Feel Complicated

Hiring a campervan for the first time should feel exciting, not intimidating. From booking and collection to handover, support, insurance, breakdown cover, and return, we’ll guide you through each step.

At Wild River Campers, our hire experience is designed to give you adventure without ownership, comfort without complication, and the freedom to make the trip your own.

Whether you’re heading for a quiet countryside campsite, a coastal escape, or a spontaneous weekend away, your campervan will be ready to go.

Want to See the Campervan Before You Book?

If you’re feeling unsure, you’re very welcome to pop in and have a look around the campervan before booking. We can show you the layout, answer any questions, and help you get a feel for whether it’s right for your trip.
