Festival Campervan Hire: The Smarter, Comfier Way to Do Festivals

The music. The food. The random conversations with strangers. The dancing in a field. The mud. The glitter. The “I’ll just go and watch one song” moments that somehow turn into three hours, a new favourite band, and a story you will be telling for years.

Night scene of a festival, lights and trees reflected in a calm lake, beams shooting into a clear blue sky, creating a serene atmosphere.

We know this because we are festival-goers ourselves.

Over the years, we have been to more festivals than we can probably count, including Download, Glastonbury, Latitude, Wilderness, Bearded Theory, Big Fake Festival, and plenty more along the way. From huge headline stages to tiny tents tucked away in a corner, we have done the lot.

And yes, we started our festival years in a tent.

At the time, it was brilliant. There is something proper nostalgic about pitching up, crawling into a sleeping bag, and waking up to the sound of campsite chatter, distant basslines, and someone attempting to boil water on a stove far too early in the morning.

But once we started doing festivals in a campervan, everything changed.

From Tent Life to Campervan Comfort

Tent life has its charm. It is part of the festival rite of passage. But there comes a point when being able to shut a proper door, sleep in a real bed, and have somewhere dry to get ready feels less like a luxury and more like common sense.

A campervan gives you your own little base for the weekend.

Somewhere to get changed without wrestling with a damp tent wall. Somewhere to store your clothes, food, wellies, glitter, waterproofs, and snacks without everything ending up in one chaotic pile. Somewhere to retreat to when the rain comes in sideways or when you need ten minutes of peace before heading back out into the madness.

And yes, glitter will still end up everywhere.

We still find glitter in our van to this day. It is a bit like sand. Once it is in, it becomes part of the story.

Why Campervans Make Festival Life So Much Easier

Sign on grass reads "SCREEN PRINTING WORKSHOP from 11am to 4pm" with maroon text and decorative border, set near a black tent.

One of the best things about taking a campervan to a festival is the simplicity.

You arrive, park up, get out, and you are ready to go.

No battling with tent poles. No, realising you have forgotten half the pegs. No waking up in a puddle because the groundsheet gave up overnight. No, trying to get ready while crouched at an impossible angle.

Instead, you have a comfortable, adventure-ready space that works around you.

After an amazing night of dancing in a field, you can crawl into a proper bed, shut the door, and sleep. You might still wake up with make-up around your eyes and yesterday’s glitter somehow on your pillow, but you will feel a whole lot fresher than you would after a night sliding slowly downhill in a sleeping bag.

That alone is worth it.

Keeping Your Phone Charged at a Festival

One festival luxury that often gets overlooked is keeping your phone charged.

These days, your phone is not just for taking photos and videos of your favourite bands. It is your ticket, your camera, your map, your payment method, your festival schedule, and the way you find your friends when someone inevitably says, “I’m by the big flag,” as if there are not 300 big flags.

Having a campervan as your base means you have somewhere to recharge properly. Whether you are checking stage times, capturing memories, paying for food and drinks, or making sure you can contact your group, keeping your phone powered up is a genuine win-win.

It is one of those small things that makes a big difference across a festival weekend. Less battery panic, fewer trips to charging lockers, and more time enjoying the music, the mud, and the moments you actually came for.

The Joy of Having Your Own Festival Base

Festivals are full-on in the best possible way.

There is always something happening. A band you want to see. A food stall you suddenly cannot live without. A hidden area you did not know existed. A workshop, a comedy tent, a fire pit, a silent disco, a wild swim, a healing field, or someone painting pineapples in a field.

That is one of our favourite things about festivals: the variety.

We have painted pineapples in the Green Fields. We have been wild swimming. We have been ankle-deep in mud. We have danced, wandered, laughed, queued, explored, and enjoyed every minute of it.

And we would not change any of it.

But having a campervan waiting for you at the end of the day makes the whole experience better. It gives you somewhere calm to return to, somewhere comfortable to sleep, and somewhere practical to keep all the things that make festival weekends easier.

It is still the same adventure, just with a better night’s sleep.

Campervan vs Tent at a Festival

So, is a campervan better than a tent for a festival?

For us, the answer is simple: yes.

A tent is brilliant when you are starting out, travelling light, or embracing the full classic festival experience. But a campervan gives you comfort, security, storage, and shelter in a way a tent simply cannot.

With a campervan, you have:

  • A proper bed to sleep in after long days and late nights.

  • Somewhere to keep your phone charged.

  • A weatherproof space when the British summer does what it does best.

  • Better storage for clothes, food, drink, boots, waterproofs, and festival essentials.

  • A more comfortable place to get ready.

  • A secure base to return to throughout the weekend.

  • The freedom to arrive ready and leave without packing down a wet tent.

It takes away so much of the hassle, which means you can focus on the good stuff: the music, the memories, and the magic.

Festival Campervan Hire Tips

Before booking your festival campervan hire, it is worth checking a few things:

  • Make sure the festival allows campervans and check whether you need a separate campervan pass.

  • Look at arrival times, pitch sizes, and any rules around awnings or extra tents.

  • Think about how much storage you will need for clothes, food, chairs, wellies, and waterproofs.

  • Consider your power needs, from charging phones to running lights and small essentials. All Wild River Campervans are set up with enough power for a long weekend, so you can enjoy the festival without worrying about running out of power.

  • Pack for all weather, because UK festivals love to keep us guessing.

  • Keep things simple. The less faff, the better.

A campervan will not stop the rain, the mud, or the glitter explosion, but it will make all of it easier to enjoy.

Festival Memories, Made Better

Festivals are about freedom. They are about letting go of the everyday for a few days and stepping into a world full of music, colour, creativity, and connection.

For us, campervans have made that experience even better.

They do not take away from the festival spirit. They add to it. They give you comfort without losing the adventure. They give you freedom without the faff. They give you a proper place to land after a day packed with music, laughter, muddy boots, and unforgettable moments.

So whether you are heading to Download, Latitude, Wilderness, Big Fake Festival, or somewhere completely new, a campervan could be the upgrade your festival weekend has been waiting for.
